Privacy
We run a pub, not a data business. This website does not track you, does not measure you and does not build any record of your visit. This page explains exactly what it does instead, in plain English.
What we collect when you look at this site
Nothing. There is no analytics on this site — no Google Analytics, no Facebook or advertising pixel, no heatmap and no visitor counter. Nothing we put on the page reports back to us about who you are, where you came from or what you looked at. Two things on the page do come from other companies — the map and the table-booking panel — and both are described below.
There is nowhere on this website where you type something and send it to us through the site. The only box you can type into is the booking panel, and that belongs to OpenTable rather than to us — what you enter there goes to them, not through this site. Everything else, events included, is an ordinary email link, described below. We have no account system, no mailing list sign-up and no newsletter.
Cookies
The site sets one cookie in total, and it is not for you. It keeps our own manager signed in to the private page where the menu, the hours and the photographs are edited. It is only ever created after that person types their password, it holds nothing but a signed session marker, and it is never sent to a visitor. Browsing this site as a customer leaves no cookie from us on your device, and we store nothing else in your browser either.
Two exceptions: the map, and the booking panel
The Visit section of the home page shows a Google map of where we are. That map is embedded straight from Google, so when the page loads, your browser asks Google for it. That request tells Google your IP address and the fact that you were on our page, and Google may set its own cookies through that embedded map. We do not see any of it and we have no control over what Google does with it — their handling is covered by Google’s own privacy policy. If you would rather not load it, blocking third-party content or cookies in your browser stops the map appearing; our address is written out beside it either way. The “Get directions” link is a plain link — nothing goes to Google unless you click it.
The booking panel in the Reservations section works the same way, and it belongs to OpenTable. When the page loads, your browser fetches that panel from OpenTable, which tells them your IP address and that you were on our page; the panel also reports back to them that it loaded. If you go on to book, the date, time, party size and the contact details you type are handled by OpenTable under their privacy policy, and they pass the booking to us so we can hold your table. We see the booking; we do not see anything else they collect. Blocking third-party content stops the panel appearing, and you can still book by emailing us — that link sits directly underneath it, and walk-ins never needed a booking at all.
Those two are the only outside things the site loads. Even the two fonts are copied onto our own server when the site is built, so your browser never contacts Google Fonts. The photographs, the logo and the menu PDF are served by us out of our own storage, not by an advertising or tracking network.
When you email us
The “Enquire about an event” button, the job-application button and the email options under the booking panel and the events section are ordinary email links. Clicking one opens your own email app with a message already started — nothing is sent anywhere until you press send yourself, and nothing passes through this website at all. Reservations, events and job enquiries all arrive in the same inbox, info@theharptavern.ca, where they are read by the people who run the pub. We keep those emails the way any business keeps its correspondence: to answer you, to hold your booking and to have a record of it afterwards. We do not add you to any list, and we never sell, rent or share what you send us.
If you would like us to delete an email you have sent us, just ask at the same address and we will.
What our web host sees
Like every website, this one sits on a hosting company’s servers, and those servers keep the ordinary technical logs any web server keeps — things like the address a request came from and which page was asked for — so the site can be served and kept secure. That is a by-product of putting a website on the internet rather than something we collect. We do not read those logs to work out who is visiting, and we do not combine them with anything else.
Behind the scenes
The private page our manager uses holds the menu, the opening hours and the photographs, and — on its Enquiries screen — any private-event enquiries sent through the form this website used to have. Nothing else about customers is stored. When a new menu is uploaded as a PDF, its text may be sent to an AI service to be read into the menu listing. That is menu text: dish names, descriptions and prices. No personal information is involved.
Children
This site is not aimed at children.
Changes
If we ever add anything else that collects information, we will change this page before it goes live, not afterwards.
